Travis Knight shares his insights around implementing PGMs with your team
1. COMMIT
Consistency communicates commitment. For Gonzaga, when
Personal Growth Mondays were put on pause, the players felt that. Protect the space.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU GET STARTED:
How often / long do you want to meet?
How could you brand the commitment (think Personal Growth Mondays) so it can be part of your program’s identity?
2. PLAN
What’s the team need? Every Sunday night, Travis and Brett tried to answer that question to determine what media assets were going to be used and what questions Travis was going to ask.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU GET STARTED:
How would your team answer the two questions:
1. What are the top 3 things that could get in the way of your team maximizing its ability?
2. What’s your biggest personal struggle that not many people know about?
How could you develop a curriculum based on their answers?
3. FACILITATE
As the facilitator, it’s not about having the answers. It’s about asking the right questions. Travis realized the less he talked, the better the PGM, because it gave space for the team to find its voice.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU GET STARTED:
Who is going to facilitate the conversation?
What can the facilitator do to help them find their voice?
4. REINFORCE
The message doesn’t take root unless you revisit it. Whether it’s visual cues, text messages, or personal conversations, Travis is finding ways to Water the Bamboo and springboard into the next conversation.
QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU GET STARTED:
What are different ways you can reinforce the message to your team?
How do you personalize the reinforcement?
